Our Purpose

Looking at photographs we use our power of association, association of qualities in common or in contrast, wholly or partially This is controlled by our memory, senses and imagination. In this group we share these thoughts with our fellow artists. The lesson learned from the differences in the reaction of people to a single image is the basis of our insight into visual art, design and subject selection.
CAPA circuits started in 1999. The digita-Art group on this site started in March 2002, the Photo-Art group started in April 2002.
This site is privately run and is not associated with any organization.

Questions regarding image techniques are encouraged and an attempt will be made to respond to members' queries in the comment section each month.

I hope this discussion group will be an enjoyable and fun activity for all who participate as well as a valuable learning experience. All levels of images are welcome. Images may be taken with a conventional film camera or digital camera.

For the Photo-Art group, minor retouching in any image editing program is acceptable. The image should retain its realistic nature.

For the digital-Art group redesigning a photograph or creating an image digitally is the idea. The best way to learn and improve your skills is to participate. We all can learn from each other.

Preparing Your Image: Image Size

1- Open the image in Photoshop or any image editing program
2- In Photoshop follow these step in the following order:
Go to Image > image size.
In image size dialog go to the very bottom of the window and make sure that constrain proportion and Resample are checked.
3- Go up in the same window to Resolution and type 72.
4- Go up in the same window to Document size in inches and enter the longest side of the image as 6.5 inches or less.
In other words the longest side of your image should not be longer than 468 pixels.
5- Click OK.
6- Go to File > Save for the Web (for PhotoShop 5.5 or later) and on the right side of the window select jpg, medium or high resolution and select progressive. Click on 2UP to view the original and the compressed images side by side to see the effect of the compression. When satisfied click Save and select the folder you want the image to be saved in.

This way the file size will be small enough for the web.

Warning: after you save the image for the web and return to Photoshop, when you try to close the image, Photoshop will ask you if you want to save the image again. DO NOT SAVE IT as it will replace your high resolution image, which is not a good idea.

If you do not have Photoshop 5.5 or later Go to file > save as and select jpg from the menu and in the jpg window select medium or high and progressive and click OK. This will achieve the same result.

After preparing your image, you may like to check it further by opening it in your internet browser. Open your browser and go to File > Open and navigate to your image. Double click on the image it will open in a new window. When you are satisfied e-mail the image to me before the 10th of the month.
